Book Recommendations Based on Our Spooky Season Candles

October has arrived, which means it’s officially time for spooky reading season.

There’s something about reading a dark, atmospheric book in October that makes the experience even better. Add a flickering candle, a cosy blanket, and a rainy evening, and suddenly your TBR feels like a place you actually want to disappear into.

For our Spooky Season Collection, we thought we’d do something a little different.

Instead of simply giving you a list of Halloween books, we’ve paired each of our spooky candles with a book that matches its atmosphere.

Whether you’re looking for witches, vampires, gothic manors, dark magic, or simply a perfect autumn read, there’s a little something here for every spooky-season reader.

So grab your TBR and let’s find your next October read!

Autumn TBR — Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young

Sometimes you don’t need ghosts or vampires to make a book feel perfect for spooky season.

Our Autumn TBR candle is for those cosy October reading days when you want something atmospheric, comforting, and distinctly autumnal.

Pair it with Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young for a story that captures the feeling of changing leaves, cooler evenings, and getting lost in a book while the world outside grows darker.

Perfect for: cosy autumn reading, atmospheric fiction, and readers who prefer their October a little less terrifying.

Gothic Manor — Belladonna by Adalyn Grace

Step inside a mysterious manor where death, secrets, and romance are waiting around every corner.

Belladonna follows Signa, a young woman who has spent her life surrounded by death and discovers that the mysterious spirit haunting Thorn Grove may hold the answers she has been searching for.

With its gothic setting, supernatural elements, romance, and beautiful atmosphere, it’s the perfect match for our Gothic Manor candle.

Perfect for: gothic romance, haunted manors, ghosts, and mysterious families.

Salem — Slewfoot by Brom

If your perfect spooky season read involves witches, dark folklore, forbidden magic, and an eerie historical setting, Slewfoot by Brom belongs on your October TBR.

Set in 1660s New England, the story follows Abitha, a young woman trapped in a strict Puritan community who encounters a mysterious and ancient spirit in the surrounding forest. Dark, atmospheric, and steeped in folklore, it makes the perfect companion to our Salem candle.

Perfect for: historical fantasy, witchy books, dark folklore, Puritan New England, and readers who like their October reading eerie and unsettling.

Vampire Blood — A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson

If your perfect spooky read involves vampires, doomed romance, obsession, and gothic darkness, look no further than A Dowry of Blood.

S.T. Gibson’s lush and haunting novel explores the complicated relationship between Dracula and his brides, making it an atmospheric choice for a dark October night.

Pair it with our Vampire Blood candle and prepare for a reading session that’s equal parts beautiful and unsettling.

Perfect for: vampire lovers, gothic romance, morally complicated relationships, and dark fantasy.

Witchcraft — The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson

For readers who want their October TBR to be dark, unsettling, and unapologetically witchy, this pairing is for you.

The Year of the Witching follows Immanuelle, a young woman living under the strict rules of a religious community who discovers a dark secret buried in the forest.

With forbidden magic, witches, religious horror, and a deeply atmospheric setting, it couldn’t be a better match for our Witchcraft candle.

Perfect for: dark fantasy, witchy books, folk horror, forbidden magic, and unsettling autumn reads.

The best part about spooky season is that there’s no single way to celebrate it. Maybe you want terrifying horror. Maybe you want a gothic romance. Or perhaps you just want to curl up with a cosy fantasy while the rain falls outside. Whatever you’re reading, there’s a candle for it.

So light a candle. Pick a book. And get spooky.
